Jazz vocalist Michelle Lordi led her crack band of local jazz heroes through two shimmering sets at The Uptown on January 2nd. Fresh off a charge up the charts on Philly’s jazz station WRTI and a mid-week radio interview, Lordi, packed the house with 92 enthusiastic and appreciate jazz fans.
In an interview on WRTI aired earlier in the week, Lordi smartly referred to The Uptown as a “listening room” and the crowd didn’t disappoint, listening in rapt silence punctuated with applause when Lordi’s band revealed their considerable chops on jazz standards, classic American pop and show tunes, and an unusual but welcome interpretation of The Cars, “Drive.”
